Sarah Elizabeth Rayner

Thursday 30th October 2014

Sarah Elizabeth Rayner is an up and coming singer-songwriter and musician from western Massachusetts who began singing in her church when she was in elementary school. While it wasn't quite evident at the time, Sarah enjoyed singing and having fun but there was something about using singing as a form of expression that she began to identify with. She continued performing music in the church until it's closure in 2007 and immediately thereafter, realizing she missed singing in a public setting. She set a goal for herself and that was write and perform her own songs.

Sarah began expressing herself musically at an early age beginning with violin around the age of 8 and it was at this time she wrote what would become her first songs. Since singing while playing the violin proved to be quite a challenge, she tried her hand at guitar before starting middle school and eventually taught herself the piano during study hall a few years later in high school. Needless to say the music bug that bit her many years earlier had set the stage for what is turning out to be quite a story. Not content with violin, guitar and piano, in her senior year of high school, Sarah added the viola to her growing instrument list and since starting college in 2013, she's learned how to play the ukelele.  She's written approximately one thousand songs and has performed throughout western Massachusetts beginning at age 14. Somehow she managed to work her way around a few rules and regulations to share the stage with quite a few national touring acts including No Triangle, Failures Union, Wind in Sails and Ryan Cabrera.  Sarah also started a YouTube channel featuring her latest compositions and highlighting some of her favorite live performances.

The past 18 months have been quite a whirlwind for Sarah and she's managed to accomplish quite a bit as she focuses on her second year of college. Sarah has been part of local radio station WBRK's Battle of the Bands in 2013 and 2014, and while she was defeated, she turned around and successfully won The Three County Fair's Battle of the Bands in August 2014 and has expanded her live performance resume to include the nationally recognized Gypsy Joynt (Great Barrington MA), The Guthrie Center (Great Barrington MA), Bogie's (Albany NY), The Three County Fair (Northampton MA), Third Thursday (Pittsfield MA), The Apple Squeeze (Lenox MA), The Parlor (North Adams MA) along with countless regional benefit events.   She's also been featured in The Berkshire Eagle newspaper, on the digital site iBerkshires and recorded her first professional project, the locally produced My Hometown EP with mixing and mastering provided by Paul Kostabi (CULTS, Guards, Dee Dee Ramone, Walter Schreifels). Sarah is also an accomplished improvisational comedienne and is a featured player in her school's improv troupe.
