Sassy 009

Oslo

Tuesday 10th September 2019

Name, where are you from?
Sunniva Lindgaard, born in Stockholm, raised in Oslo since I started in school.

Describe your style in three words?
Comfortable, simple and sometimes edgier than what you'd expect.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
At Øyafestivalen back in 2015, all my friends wanted to see Florence + The Machine. I've never listened to her music so I decided to check out Flying Lotus's gig instead. I stood in this overwhelmingly huge crowd, underneath an even bigger tent by myself, not knowing that this was going to be the gig that made me realize how powerful live music can be. Sharing this moment with all the strangers around me made it very special.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history - who would it be and why?
Joy Division and Björk. I grew up listening to Björk as a kid, and Joy Division will always have a special place in my heart.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
I had an emo phase as a kid. This lifestyle was very much about being sad and embracing dark, real stuff, which probably has influenced my taste in music more than I've thought of before. Still prefer minor chords.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Shakespeare. Would be nice to see If he really did exist or not. And if he did, was he covering up for Sir Francis Bacon or not.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
De Nieuwe Anita in Amsterdam. The audience can see the gigs from two different floors, and the venue itself feels very intimate and personal.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Erik Samkopf. Honestly the best listener I know of – not just in music. His universe of thoughts, inspirations and reflections on life is all very mysterious yet uncompromising, and he has such musical flair. Discussing music and sounds with him is very rewarding and fascinating. Everyone should have a talk with Erik "Sammy S Beats" Samkopf once in a while. I'm lucky to have my studio next door to him.
