Spring King

Manchester Garage Pop with a healthy dose of Surf

Thursday 7th April 2016

Spring King is the brainchild of production virtuoso Tarek Musa who began this project by ripping out a disused bathroom in his house, setting up a drum kit and practice amp and put to task writing, recording and mixing a song each day in his ramshackle studio.

Tarek was then joined by Peter Darlington, James Green and Andy Morton. Impressive and stylistically diverse tracks from these sessions followed and ‘Let’s Ride’ and ten-track demo ‘In All This Murk And Dirt’ emerged online creating an instant buzz.

It seems the world was listening when long time Spring King fan Zane Lowe played their single 'City' as the first ever track for his Beats 1 Radio show, back when it launched in 2015.

Following on from that moment their next single ’Who Are You? (released in December 2015) encapsulated Spring King perfectly; a raw energy that flicked and teared its way through garage sensibilities leaving everything in it’s wake.

2015 also saw Spring King tour with the likes of Courtney Barnett, Slaves and FIDLAR, whilst 2016 saw their own UK headline tour in February.

After being made Annie Mac’s Hottest Record, Spring King shared their latest single ‘Rectifier’, their first since signing with Island Records released in March 2016.

Followed by a sold out show supporting Wolf Alice at The Forum, London in March 2016 they are also scheduled to support Kaiser Chiefs on their sold out tour in June/July.

Before that though Spring King have another headline tour of their own followed by 3 days at Dot To Dot Festival in May.

Spring King were one of many acts we tipped to break through in 2016 - check out some more acts from our New Noise 2016 arcticle here.
