The Bohicas

60s rock n roll mixed with killer indie hooks

Wednesday 12th August 2015

With 60s rock n roll mixed, killer indie hooks and brash punk riffs, The Bohicas make short, sharp bursts of ludicrously melodic, snarling guitar pop that hits you like a thunderbolt. Hi def, loud, fast and shiny, they invoke pulp imagery torn from the pages of a graphic novel.

“I love Sin City and Frank Miller. All his bullshit detective stuff. It’s hilarious, especially when a wimp like me is writing about it,” says lead singer Dominic McGuinness. “It’s more exciting than your real life. All that stuff that doesn’t actually exist anywhere. Well, not in Hainault anyway. In Hainault you could sing about a hedge and a traffic cone….”

The Bohicas are Dominic McGuinness, drummer Brendan Heaney, guitarist Dominic John and bassist Adrian Acolatse. Their story begins in Essex where, as schoolmates, McGuinness, drummer Brendan Heaney and guitarist Dom John first came together over a love of The Beatles, The Kinks, Ray Charles and the new wave of guitar bands who emerged at the start of the century after Britpop was limping off.

The band's debut album The Making Of, due for release August 21st 2015 via Domino, and will be available on CD, vinyl and digitally. It will be released in two special formats - the Deluxe Edition will feature a bonus 7" single featuring 'In The Mood' and 'Rewind Replay', and will be available from Domino Mart and select indies. The same two tracks will also feature on the iTunes Bonus Track Edition.

The Making Of was produced by Mark Rankin (Queens Of The Stone Age, Bombay Bicycle Club), Chris 'Merrick' Hughes (Tears For Fears, Adam And The Ants) and Oli Bayston (Toy, Boxed In). Featuring early singles 'XXX' and 'Swarm', alongside Radio 1 playlisted 'To Die For' and 'Where You At', the album is two barrels' worth of electrifying tunes and crackling 21st Century rock and roll.

Recent months have seen The Bohicas return home for their Swarm Over Essexxx tour, for which a tour documentary by Pulse Films' director duo thirtytwo's (Blur's 'No Distance Left To Run, LCD Soundsystem's 'Shut Up And Play The Hits') will soon be unveiled. Watch the trailer below.
