A Blaenavon Photo
Name
Blaenavon
Where are you from?
Liphook and Liss in Hampshire.
Describe your style in three words?
Smart and casual.
If you could make a record with anyone from history?
We would love Tony Visconti to co-produce a record, and we’d get Steve Albini to play the bass guitar. Steve is a really good guitarist and I’m sure he’d be able to get the hang of the bass guitar in no time.
What music did you listen to growing up?
My Dad’s ‘Be Bop Deluxe’ records.
What was your all-time favourite gig?
Grimes on the Park Stage at Glastonbury this year.
Which British subculture means the most to you?
Neo Youth Romantics. It’s an underground poetry society hailing from Hampshire.
You can spend an hour with anyone from history - who would it be and why?
Ben - Cleopatra.
Harris - Himself.
Frank - Michelle Obama.
For obvious reasons.
How should your music be listened to?
Over and over again to unfold all the juicy layers.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
Syd Barrett and Jackie Leven.
If you could share the bill with any British band in history – who would it be?
Happy Mondays! Because we want to find out what Bez is like as a person.
Blaenavon are an indie pop trio from Hampshire. Their debut album 'That's Your Lot' will be released on 7th April 2017 and they embark on a UK headline tour in celebration of the release in March/April 2017. After having recently completed support slots with Sundara Karma and Two Door Cinema Club throughout February/March.
Watch the video for their latest single 'Orthodox Man' below.
What was the first track you played on repeat?
'No Surprises' by Radiohead.
One record you would keep forever?
I’ve already thrown out all of my records apart from ’Five Leaves Left' by Nick Drake. Hopefully it will last for the adventure of my lifetime. Fav track - Riverman.
A song from your favourite album?
'Oh Comely' by Neutral Milk Hotel from the album 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea'.
A song you wish you had written?
'Whenever, Wherever' by Shakira.
Song that defines the teenage you?
‘Teenage Dirtbag’ by Weezer.
What was the last piece of music you bought?
‘Mother’s Son - Vol. 2’ by Francis Lung.
What is your favourite song lyric?
"True love is a rose behind glass that’s locked and kept closed. Maybe just to me."
'True Love' by Elliott Smith.
Is there a song you like that people wouldn’t expect?
'Philadelphia Lawyer' by Woody Guthrie.
Best love song of all time?
‘A Case of You’ by Joni Mitchell or 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' (can’t remember who that’s by, even though I know it’s Bonnie Tyler).
Best song to turn up loud?
'Knights of Cydonia' by Muse.
Best song to bring people together?
'Imagine' by John Lennon.
4 songs you can’t stop listening to right now?
Night Café - Strange Clothes
Because it’s jangly poppy juicy goodness (and because we actually can’t stop listening to it because we are on tour with them right now).
Sundara Karma - Flame
because it’s a stadium-sized indie anthem (and because we actually can’t stop listening to it because we are on tour with them right now).
PLAZA - Origami
Math Rock Is Back! All of ze flavours...
The Interruptors - She Got Arrested
F***ing tune!
