Introduce yourself
Celine Autumn / Gal from Sobs. I make music

Describe your style in 3 words?
Bright, bright colours.

What does the Fred Perry Shirt mean to you?
The Fred Perry Shirt to me represents inclusivity, which allowed the shirt to evolve symbolically throughout the decades.

What is the first song you played on repeat?
'Hot N Cold' by Katy Perry. I was the biggest Katy Perry fan when I was 10, it’s probably my earliest memory of being so fond of an artist and their music.

What is one record you would keep forever?
'Mechanical Animals' by Marilyn Manson. My 15-year-old self would tell you that it “saved my life".

What is a song lyric that has inspired you?
"I dream of my future,
Remote from time bounds,
Becoming myself,
Without any end.”

'I Hope to Be Around' by Men I Trust.

What has been the best gig you've been to?
It’s tough to pick one but if I had to, it would be when I saw Sunflower Bean in late 2017, in New York, at the venue Elsewhere. They were pretty wild live, something I didn’t expect from just listening to them on record. It was also my first day in New York, so the entire experience just felt really special.

Who is your ultimate British musical icon?
Charli XCX. She’s so ahead of the game in pop music. Her music shows how you can be experimental, yet not compromise with the accessibility that is often expected of when it comes to making pop music.

What song do you wish you had written?
'Real Love' by Big Thief.

Where do you go to see live music?
I go to Decline a lot, it is a venue in Singapore. A lot of bands that come to Singapore go there to play, a lot of the shows I’ve played were held there too.

04Playlist Notes

'Teen Challenge' by Great Grandpa.
Big hooks all over '90s slacker rock chord progressions. Don’t think I could ever not be in the mood for this song.

'Percolator' by Charly Bliss
I love the textures of Eva’s voice. "I'm gonna die in a getaway car / I haven't tried, but it sounds too hard”. Her anxiety driven lyrics makes the song the perfect anthem to my life.

'Gold Soundz' by Pavement.
I think this is my favourite song by Pavement. I’ll let you know when I have another favourite.

'Your Dog' by Soccer Mommy.
I went to her show in New York but for some reason, I only started really liking her music much later when I decided to give her album “Clean”, a proper listen. Sophie Allison is such a good songwriter.

'Patriot' by Crying.
Crying’s sound has evolved since their days of bit-crushed pop tunes, I love the 80s rock elements they’ve incorporated into their latest album "Beyond the Fleeting Gales". “Patriot" is like if Rush and Nintendo had a baby.

'Hot Pink' by Let’s Eat Grandma.
The song starts off in such an unassuming fashion, ascending into a chorus filled with industrial percussion and gritty bass synths. "I'm just an object of disdain to you / I'm only seventeen I don't know what you mean”. They have such a child-like approach to their lyrics and I love how well it contrasts with their glittery yet dark instrumentation.

'I Got It' by Charli XCX feat. Brooke Candy, CupcakKe and Pabllo Vittar.
I listened to the 'Pop 2' album every day when it was first released. It features many other talented artists and is produced by one of my favourite producers, A.G Cook. Charli XCX is the future of pop music, what a queen.

'Monopoly' by EASYFUN ft. Noonie Bao.
I have a pretty short attention span so I love how quick this song kicks in with such simple yet strong melodies. I’m also fond of the random spurts of pitch shifting.

'Immaterial' by SOPHIE.
SOPHIE’s releases never fail to impress me. I love her old releases which were all put out in singles. Her new record sounds more refined and cohesive.

'Only to Trip and Fall Again' by Katie Dey.
Distorted vocals drenched in reverb, over glitchy instrumentation. I discovered this track recently and it has been in my 'currently listening' playlist since.

'Desert Horse' by Melody’s Echo Chamber.
I remember being in awe listening to this track when it first came out. It’s so different from their earlier stuff. I love how progressive and weird it is.

'Pain' by The War On Drugs.
I saw them at Laneway Festival here in Singapore earlier this year. I also listened to them on a drive from Slab City back to LA. We went out there to shoot the Telltale Signs music video, which was released back in July. Overall good memories tied to this band and the music.
