Describe your style in three words?
Undertaker’s Smart Cousin.
The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?
Le Tigre - Deceptacon
My friend used it in a 2008/9 skate video and I’d go home and listen to it relentlessly on YouTube, blasting the, albeit wrong, lyrics at the top of my voice. I even learnt the dance that was on some shoddy video.
A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?
The Maccabees - Wall Of Arms
This track in particular reminds me that I am part of a community, a family, i’m loved and I give the love that is deserved. My comrades and I rely on each other through the tougher situations and those triumphant glories that we all share and relish in, this is a reminder.
A song from your most memorable gig?
The Fall - Cowboy George
I shot The Fall (one of my all time favourites) at Liverpool’s Arts Club. MES hurled the mic into the crowd and stood leering over them as they scrambled over the mic, a few people screamed their own renditions as the track was drawn out and security tried to retrieve the mic.
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
Pulp - Common People
Have you ever heard a man’s voice that enchanting? I think all of my friends will agree that ALL of my good lap dances have been given to this track. It’s also probably responsible for the demise of a dozen pairs of trousers. The splits and multiple spins are guaranteed.
A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?
Calva Louise - Outrageous
From their sweltering guitar to thunderous beats Calva Louise are the catchiest band i’ve heard in a very long time. They’re also some of the loveliest people you could ever meet and their positive energy flows over into their live performance which is captivating in itself.
Best song to turn up loud? And why?
Girl Band - Pears For Lunch
Primarily played at max volume in my bedroom I’m sure you can hear it down the street. The sheer amount of reverb and industrious beats will send any sane human into a panic when listened to loud, and loud is the only way this should be listened to - it’s tinnitus inducing.
A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?
The Delgados - Coming in from the Cold
I first heard this track in Danny Brady’s Lost and Found video part for Blueprint Skateboards, it reminds me of home, of skateboarding with my friends and summer on the beach with a load of beers and the best company. I listen to this quite a lot when i’m feeling homesick.
An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?
Peaches - Boys Wanna Be Her
Peaches is the embodiment of not giving a single toss about what people think. Her raucous attitude and powerful demeanour is truly inspirational to anybody that hears her lyrics. The drum beats almost punctuate her every word and deliver her message with an almighty punch.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
The Stitches - My Baby Hates Me
All-nighter’s never end, they crash abruptly into an involuntary slumber. This track explains how that process occurs.
