Model/Musician — Huddersfield
A James Magee Photo
Name, where are you from?
James Magee, from Huddersfield via West London.
What do you do?
I model and make music. I also have a brand that I’ve been working on – still in the early stages but I’ve been doing the photography for it.
Describe your style in three words?
Mood and weather influenced.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
A Joey Badass show a few years ago in London, I met the guys beforehand and was inspired after seeing them in their element.
If you could put any three bands in history on a lineup?
A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan, 2Pac.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
British subcultures such as grime and garage have influenced me as I have lived through the whole process and watched it go from an underground British subculture to a worldwide formally recognised powerhouse in UK music.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
2pac - 'Tears'.
Where is your favourite independent venue
There's so many these days it's hard to say I do like village underground and also the old House of Vans venue.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
CASISDEAD - 'P.A.S.O.U'
Cas is so coldddd and still remains completely anonymous.
The first track you played on repeat?
So Solid Crew - '21 Seconds'.
A song that defines the teenage you?
Flatbush Zombies - 'Palm Trees'.
One record you would keep forever?
The Streets – 'Has It Come To This?'.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"The world is yours" - Nas.
A song you wished you had written?
Roy Ayers - 'Sunshine'.
Best song to turn up loud?
Chief Keef - 'Faneto'.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Roase Royce - 'Wishing on a Star'.
A song to get you straight on the dance floor?
Burna Boy ft Zlatan - 'Killin Dem'.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
OutKast - 'Spottieottiedopaliscious'.
Any new bands you’re into at the moment?
A new artist I am really into at the moment is a friend of mine, Green-Tea-Peng check her out!
