A Red Axes Photo
Name, where are you from?
Hi hi, we are RED AXES, from Tel Aviv, Israel.
Describe your style in three words?
Futuristic fisherman's boutique.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The Brian Jonestown Massacre in Tel Aviv two years ago was very special, seeing them playing an all-nighter Rock N Roll gig with a lot of passion and emotional accuracy was inspiring and moving.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Psychic TV around 1990 'Towards Thee Infinite Beat' rave days would be a crazy dream, this band is a huge influence for us for many reasons, but the most important one is freedom. The second one would be probably My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult another band that brings light out of the darkness.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Goth - was kind of the biggest first crash.
Rockabilly - best style and guitar power addiction.
Hippy - was always there because hope is important.
Skate - the experience of teenage youth, risks and crew.
Rave - that's our life, that's our job and our main culture. We are ravers and we work for the rave.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
George Harrison - one of the most amazing human beings that we can think of, think it would be a funny and meaningful session.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
It would be Opium Club in Vilnius Lithuania at the SMALA night. It's the best party in the world thanks to Manfredas' crew and the crazy dancefloor atmosphere, we love everything about it.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Charlie Magira RIP. He was one of the coolest guys you can imagine and the best guitar player we've ever heard live. Such personality and charm, he went to another world almost three years ago and it's a big loss. We used to work together ten years ago in a kitchen, we were really lucky to spend this time with this special man.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Sabotage' by Beastie Boys.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Octopus' by Syd Barrett.
One record you would keep forever?
'Creation is Perfect (I am a Camera)' by Minimal Compact.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
'See The Storm' by Salty Dog.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Jukebox Babe' by Alan Vega.
A song you wished you had written?
'The Partisan' by Leonard Cohen.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Atomic Bongos' by Lydia Lunch.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
(Niv) I really like 'S.O.S.' by ABBA and 'To France' by Mike Oldfield.
Both good records that are a bit far from the cool safe ground.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Spirit In The Sky' by Norman Greenbaum.
Any new bands you are listening to right now?
'Kim's Sunsets' by The Fat White Family.
'Selfie' by Surfbort.
'For You' by The Abigails.
'Summer In Siberia' by Dan Melchior.
'Next World' by The White Screen.
'Warmth (How Mean is Mean)' by Autarkic.
