03Interview

Name, where are you from?
The Collier, Southend, Essex.

Describe your style in three words?
Dark, comfy, warm.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Biffy Clyro @ The 02 in 2013. We got right to the front of the audience and the energy from the band and rest of the crowd was amazing. Their stage setup was incredible, with a massive tree and pyrotechnics firing off as well!

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Radiohead and Neil Young. They’re both massive influences on us and they’re both incredible live as well.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Grunge.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Danny DeVito, he seems like a cool dude.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Chinnery's in Southend - it's a major grassroots music venue in Essex and a gateway for hundreds of live acts. It was also the first venue we ever played so it will always hold a special place in our heart.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Sun Kil Moon because in our opinion, he is one of the most underrated and hard-working musicians currently active! His influence on our sound is subtle but it's in there somewhere... If you listen hard enough, we think...

The Collier released their latest single 'Brother' (listen below) on 22nd February 2019.

Catch them live at Notting Hill Arts Club (Communion Club) in London on the 3rd March or at Live At Leeds Festival on 4th May.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Thnks Fr Th Mmrs' by Fall Out Boy.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
"It’s better to burn out than fade away,
My My, Hey Hey."

'Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)' by Neil Young.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'I Don’t Feel Like Dancing' by Scissor Sisters.

A song you wished you had written?
