A Vacation Forever Photo
Name, where are you from?
My name is Zacharias Zachrisson and I go under the artist name Vacation Forever.
What do you do?
Compose, write and perform music and fucking with the system.
Describe your style in three words?
Teenage spirit forever.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I think it has to be a Brian Jonestown Massacre gig where they played a three-hour-long live set at a venue called Debaser in Stockholm and finished off playing a mash-up of 'Hey Jude', it felt like the whole place was on fire, everybody was so mesmerized, it was a total moshpit of love, sweat and euphoria. I think that was the closest I got to a pure '70s psychedelic rock experience.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Joy Division and Nirvana, do I really have to explain why?
Which subcultures have influenced you?
The punk scene, with no doubt, and the whole DIY culture that surrounds it. Everything from the unpretentious approach to homemade fanzines and the anti-establishment attitude and bleached hair. My love for the punk scene is the longest and most stable relationship I ever had if not the only.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Queen Elizabeth II when she heard 'God Save The Queen' for the first time over breakfast in Buckingham Palace. I’m a big fan of history, British punk music and English breakfast and there you have it all in one place.
Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
It has to be in an amphitheatre north of Stockholm in a place called Gagnef. The venue is located in the middle of nowhere, on a riverbank with nothing else than a forest surrounding it. Don't get me wrong, I love playing in a sweaty, gritty club, but there is something special with playing out in the open, gazing at the sun like a true nature boy.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
The troubled mind of Dan Treacy from Television Personalities. He recorded and wrote some of the most brilliant, witty, culturally infused, unlistenable pop songs of the previous decades and he influenced me more than anybody else.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Age Of Consent' by New Order, still on repeat.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Silent Shout' by The Knife.
One record you would keep forever?
'It's The Mick Trouble LP' by Mick Trouble.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“Gonna make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all your guns at once and explode into space
Like a true nature child
We were born born to be wild”
From 'Born To Be Wild' by Steppenwolf.
A song you wished you had written?
'Some Things Last A Long Time' by Daniel Johnston.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Born Slippy (Nuxx)' by Underworld.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart' by Alicia Keys.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Better Off Alone' by Alice Deejay.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'If The Sun Stops Shinin' by Richard Swift.
