03Interview

What music defines the teenage you?
I went through a few phases; the boy band/girl band era was intense, then I was into Nirvana and Kula Shaker. So it was everything from bubblegum pop to grunge to psychedelic rock, I guess.

A song from your favourite album?
Goblin, Tyler the Creator - Not a favourite album per se, but it was a SPECIAL album. That whole album and the song ‘Yonkers’ reminded me of a heady time when my then boyfriend (now husband) just started dating.

Best song to turn up loud?
Vivaldi’s ‘Winter, The Four Seasons (Concerto No. 4 in F minor, Op. 8, RV 297)’. I dare you to resist closing your eyes when 1:14 hits your soul.

What new music/bands are you listening to?
Not new, but I’m currently rediscovering Talking Heads.

What are you working on at the moment?
Starting a family. That’s going to be pretty hardcore.

04Playlist Notes

‘Talk Show Host’ - Radiohead
One part hopelessness, one part IDGAF. Best song to play as you watch the world burn.

‘A Girl Like You’ - Edwyn Collins
Empire Records was EVERYTHING.

‘Money (That’s What I Want)’ - The Flying Lizards
If you haven’t watched Empire Records, we can’t be friends.

'No One Knows’ - Queens of the Stone Age
That riff. Yum.

‘Pogo’ - Shinichi Osawa Extended Remix
Digitalism Reminds me of a time I could go out partying 3 nights a week and still felt human afterwards.

‘Tamale’ - Tyler the Creator
My cat’s name (Tamale, not Tyler the Creator). I shout the chorus part in his face sometimes.

‘Chop Suey!’ - System Of A Down
Best song to Karaoke to tbh. Great to furiously mop to as well.

‘He Loves Me (Lyzel In E Flat)’ - Jill Scott
This is what falling in love sounds like.

‘Lovely (With Khalid)’ - Billie Eilish
I think I may have a thing for dark subject matters that are wrapped beautifully.

‘No Surprises’ - Radiohead
If ever I was going to bow out of this world, this would be the song I’d do it to.

‘House of Cards (Main Title Theme)’ - Jeff Beal
When the going gets tough, the tough ask themselves this question, “What would Frank Underwood do?”
