A Beige Banquet Photo
Beige Banquet, hailing from Halifax, Durham, Brighton, Edinburgh and Minnesota. All currently residing in London.
Off stage: Smart Casual Funeral.
On stage: Less Is More.
I saw The Shifters and Smarts play upstairs at the Gasometer Hotel in Melbourne back in 2019. Although sonically quite different they're both great examples of brilliance and artistic creativity that sums up the Melbourne music scene. There were only about twenty people there as well.
The Fall circa 1977 and The Fall circa 1982, just so I can watch the two utterly brilliant phases of MES fight amongst themselves and we can just roll around and revel in the chaos and calamity.
Although I'm not sure that these are technically subcultures but I'm hugely influenced by the Krautrock and No Wave movements. They happened almost ten years apart and on different continents but they're connected by their refusal of rock cliches and their desire to champion creativity and art within music over any form of commercialism or listenability.
Nick Cave. We'd just walk around looking moody and cool.
Mabgate Bleach in Leeds. It’s got this slightly grimy DIY feel, lovely staff and the crowds are always excellent. Don't drink the tap water though.
Although Gang of Four are quite 'sung', I think Andy Gill is an underrated guitarist. The tone and expression in his playing is a huge influence.
Beige Banquet will be performing at The Lexington, London on 5th February 2022. Tickets are available here.

'Eyeless' by Slipknot.
'Territorial Pissings' by Nirvana.
'Typical System' by Total Control.
'One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong' by Leonard Cohen. No one particular line, basically the whole song.
'Bad Girls' by Donna Summer.
'Cowgirl In The Sand' by Neil Young.
'My Pal' by GOD.
'How Deep Is Your Love' by Bee Gees.
'Halleluhwah' by CAN.
Here's a few bands that I've been listening to recently (the ones that were on Spotify), Liiek, Taqbir, Dr Sures Unusual Practice, Fehlt, Maraudeur.
