A Enola Gay Photo
Name, where are you from?
We’re Joe, Fionn, Adam and Barry. Together we’re Enola Gay from Belfast, Ireland.
Describe your style in three words?
Original rip offs.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
J: First time I saw The Prodigy in 2015, speaks for itself.
F: Girl Band. Felt special with it being their comeback show.
A: Jungle, the quality of the performance was indistinguishable from the record, and everyone on stage was on top of their game. Great party atmosphere.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands or artists in history?
F: MF DOOM and The Prodigy, just to meet DOOM and see The Prodigy again.
J: Daft Punk and Girl Band, best band ever and the best electronic act I’ll never get to see.
A: Joy Division and Public Enemy, two acts with massively passionate fanbases, being huge inspirations to countless artists who came after them.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
F: Irish culture, it’s rebellious by nature and predates ‘punk’ music.
J: Rave culture. Meeting in up a field and dancing with your mates until either sunrise or the police show up is the best craic ever. Karl Hyde said it best; “Rave was more punk than punk.” Only, it still is.
A: Post-Punk; for the lyrical/musical creativity, whilst keeping the attitude of punk.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
F: Jesus Christ, to ask him what’s the craic with the bible.
J: Ian Curtis, to let him hear Blue Monday.
A: Kurt Vonnegut.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
A: Mandella Hall, Belfast. RIP.
F & J: Vicar Street. They don’t check your bags.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
F: Lucille Bogan. She wrote WAP back in 1934 (see 'Till the Cows Come Home').
J: Real personal one here that the whole band could easily use as their answer, Neil Kerr, aka Mount Palomar. Besides being one of the most exciting new electronic acts in the world, he was our believer from day one. If it wasn’t for him, there would be no Enola.
A: Sinéad O’Connor; not only is she one of the most talented artists ever, someone whose musical innovation was so important, but she also stood up for what she believed strongly about, without thought of how it may have affected her career.
The first track you played on repeat?
J: 'The Game' by Motörhead.
F: 'Pump It' by Black Eyed Peas.
A: 'Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)' by Enrique Iglesias.
A song that defines the teenage you?
J: Any Dead Kenndys tune.
A: 'Rocket Queen' by Guns ‘N Roses.
F: '(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais' by The Clash.
One record you would keep forever?
J: Rage Against the Machine’s debut.
A: 'Siamese Dream' by The Smashing Pumpkins.
F: 'Toxicity by System' of a Down.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
J: “He talks in maths, he buzzes like a fridge”
From 'Karma Police' by Radiohead. Made me realise how songwriting paint a picture in songwriting by just stating what you see can signify so much.
A: “We used to fuss when the landlord dissed us. No heat, wonder why Christmas missed us. Birthdays was the worst days, now we sip Champagne when we thirsty.”
From 'Juicy' by Biggie.
F: “All you zombies tweet tweet tweet”
From 'Tweet Tweet Tweet' by Sleaford Mods.
A song you wished you had written?
J: 'Evidently Chickentown' by John Cooper Clarke.
A: 'Disorder' by Joy Division.
F: 'One Rizla' by Shame.
Best song to turn up loud?
J: 'Hacker' by Death Grips.
A: 'I Will Follow' by U2.
F: 'Fairies Wear Boots' by Black Sabbath.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
F: 'The Climb' by Miley Cyrus.
J: 'anthems' by Charli XCX.
A: 'Angeleyes' by ABBA.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
J: 'Can’t Get You out of My Head' by Kylie Minogue.
F: 'I Love to Boogie' by T Rex.
A: 'Stomp!' by The Brothers Johnson.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
J: 'Uh Oh, Love Comes to Town' by Talking Heads.
A: 'Ride On' by Christy Moore.
F: 'Couldn’t Love You More' by John Martyn.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
J: For Those I Love. Such raw emotion, his music and visuals together are next level art.
A: NewDad.
F: Pete and Bas.
