A Glenn Kitson Photo
Name, where are you from?
Glenn Kitson, Bolton.
Describe your style in three words?
Not that interesting.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Happy Mondays, G-Mex Manchester 1990. They were at their peak. They'd just released the Madchester EP, everyone knew they were brilliant. This was just before their big breakthrough album - 'Pills 'N' Thrills And Bellyaches' I was a kid. I'd done some acid and they were like Prince on temazepam. Good times.
If you could work with any two artists in history?
Well, that would have been Andrew Weatherall who sadly recently passed away. I did get to hang with him once and he always had time for a friendly chat whenever I mithered him in the street. I'd also love to make something with Jeremy Deller, I don't really know much about art but his is something I understand as it works around subjects I am obsessed with.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Football casual and acid house obviously but I also love the English and American psychedelia movement, Beats, original Mod, and the Folk scene.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Robert Anton Wilson.
Of all the places your work has been shown, which is your favourite?
I made a wee film with Harry Kane for Nike for the 2018 World Cup that was shown on the telly before the England v Colombia game.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Mick Head without a shadow of a doubt.
Follow Glenn on Instagram and see some of his work at www.therigout.com.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Radio Babylon' by Meat Beat Manifesto.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'W.F.L' by Happy Mondays.
One record you would keep forever?
'Five Leaves Left' by Nick Drake.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"And they gave him away
Like in 'Whistle Down The Wind'
By the look on his face
He never gave in."
From 'Vanishing Point' by New Order.
A song you wished you had written?
'Black Cow' by Steely Dan.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Lost Johnny' by Hawkwind.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
I dunno, I don't know what people expect that I like? I'm old and like loads of different stuff. I really like that George Michael album 'Listen Without Prejudice'. I'm old enough to remember when admitting that would get you in trouble.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
I used to like it when they ended the rave with something cheesy like 'Sunshine On a Rainy Day' by Zoe. But I wouldn't know anymore, I've usually left wherever I am way before the end nowadays.
Any new bands you are listening to right now?
L'Epee.
