Describe your style in three words?
Easy accidental comfort.
If you could make a record with anyone from history?
I’d make a record with Delia Derbyshire. She made some seriously interesting sounds out of the tape based setup she had back in the 60s.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Going off recent favourite gigs it would have to be watching Beak> at Latitude.
What music icons inspire your sound today?
Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Lætitia Sadier, Ben Wallers.
One record you would keep forever?
It would have to be the Pixies 'Surfer Rosa'. It was one of the first records I was given, and at the age of 14 absolutely hated. But alas, it grew on me and now is a record I can listen to at all points and never get sick of.
Goat Girl are a South London 4-piece signed to Rough Trade. They featured prominently in our British New Wave 2017 piece and supported The Fall at The 100 Club, London as part of the SubcultureLive gig series. Read our review here.
The first track you played on repeat?
I don’t know about this being the ‘first track’ I ever played, but 'Sugar Hiccup' by Cocteau Twins has stuck in my mind as an early memory of a song I was told to listen to by my first guitar teacher and kept on repeat for a while.
A song that defines the teenage you?
Probably some kind of teenage angsty, self-loathing material such as 'A Forest' by The Cure.
Best song to start a party?
ALWAYS 'Pump It' by The Black Eyed Peas.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"It seems to me if we forget our roots and where we stand,
the movement will disintegrate like castles built on sand."
'The Age Of Self' by Robert Wyatt.
A song you wished you had written?
'Silly Games' by Janet Kay, it's a song that can be enjoyed under any kind of circumstance.
Four songs by new bands you are listening to now?
'Wenu Wenu' by Omar Souleyman
I’m quite late on the boat but I saw him at field day this year and was blown away.
'Entitled To Nothing' by Honkies
A great new band from South London, cowboy sounds meets heavy drum machine beats.
'Beer Fear' by The Honey Hahs
Another special band from South, made up of three sisters who all sing in perfect harmony and write the most beautiful songs.
'Voodoo Saloon' by Jerkcurb
One of my favourite recent artists, he never fails to write incredible songs with the production to meet them.
