Name, where are you from?
Hitomi Blount, Takasaki, Gunma Japan.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
There’s a clip on YouTube of the British music show ’OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST’ with Sadistic Mika Band. You have to watch it because it is really cute. The song was originally written in Japanese, but the lyrics were slightly changed to English for the performance. The title was also changed from 'Hori made Hitottobi' to 'Suki Suki Suki'. The whole performance is amazing but I really like the fashion, including the way they sing and dance.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Dr. Martens. I'm not throwing myself in any particular musical genre scenes but I think they have a cool, working class feel to them. I like the standard three-hole, the one I’m wearing today.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
I like music but I prefer to enjoy it myself in my room.
If you could be on the line up with any bands in history?
I do want to mix in with The Beatles with this haircut! Like, ringing the triangle in the corner of the stage.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
If I had an hour, I’m going for a walk with John Lennon, to a bakery to buy some bread and eat it. Just an ordinary day in Karuizawa. I'd like to ask him about Yoko (Ono), or his views on parenting and marriage. A part of it is that my father is a big fan of John Lennon and he used to make me watch video clips of John Lennon from a young age, so I guess that's the influence.
The first track you played on repeat?
Thanks to my father, it would have to be The Beatles, but I would also say 'Yesterday Yes A Day' by Jane Birkin. It was on the same album as another song which was the theme tune for a Japanese TV drama series. I bought the album and must have been studying English at that time, so I was also using it to train my listening skills.
A song that defines the teenage you?
This also is 'Yesterday Yes A Day' by Jane Birkin. Her sound caught me first, then when I saw the album cover I thought she was really pretty and liked her fashion too.
One record you would keep forever?
If I think of an album that I'll never get tired of it, it'll be the same person. I'll go with 'Arabesque' by Jane Birkin. I've been listening to it since the best of the album. I like her style in terms of an ‘ideal woman’ as she got older.
Best song to turn up loud?
Honesty, the best song would be 'I Dreamed A Dream' from 'Les Misérables'. I imagine myself as Susan Boyle and sing! It’s a great song when you are stressed out, wanting to get the sound out of your stomach.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Wannabe' by Spice Girls. I wasn't really interested in this song until my husband's sister from America sang it to me at karaoke. It was so cute (laughs), and that's when I fell in love with it.
Any new music you are listening to now?
Not a new one but one I've been into recently is Thomas Dolby. His music video for 'She Blinded Me With Science' is really cute.
