Name, where are you from?
My name is Iglooghost. I’m from a big hill. I make lovely songs.
Describe your style in three words?
Baggy inflatable gnome.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The other day me and 15 of my friends put on a secret show in a barn where we screamed & rapped for 5 hours. We got a song called 'Meal Deal' and it’s about UK supermarket meal deals. You lot would like it - it’s very cultural.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
l wanna play a stadium arena tour with Takashi Yoshimatsu and Robert Wyatt.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I didn’t grow up in any subculture but I love studying them from afar & adoringly smashing specific things together on my laptop. Even if I’m in a foul hopeless mood, the idea of a really really dumb experiment like re-writing a traditional song from Java with a Jugg808.wav feels like the funniest activity possible.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I would probably show an ancient Mesopotamian bloke my VSTs but then get sliced into pieces and thrown in a marsh.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
I like a tiny venue in Ramsgate called the Ramsgate Music Hall. It somehow sounds better than anywhere else due to some kind of 99999999 IQ big brain audiophile tuning. It’s absolutely tiny and in the middle of nowhere. I think it’s sick that it slam dunks on any venue in London and is in a rogue town with about seven thousand chip shops. My dad drove up and saw Melt Banana with me there the other week. My ears felt like they’d been clobbered by steel batons. I also played in a mountainous forest in Nakano in Japan which was really nice because I was huffing up the high-altitude mist and plant air, rather than sweat and shite - and it’s also the same forest that Lightning Bolt played in that legendary YouTube video where it looks like Brian Chippendale is gonna have an aneurism.
Your greatest unsung hero in music?
Joe Petersen’s music sounds like it’s shrieking and weeping even when it’s going hard as f*ck.
The first track you played on repeat?
When I was about 8 I had a DVD of the industrial metal band Fear Factory and I compulsively rewound the part on a song called 'Cyber Waste' where the singer says “f*ckkkkkkk youuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!” and waggles a blurred out middle finger up at the camera.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Karma' by Waka Flocka Flame expertly beat-matched to 'Eight Lines' by Steve Reich.
One record you would keep forever?
I got a CD by Otilo called '6402' last year and it’s the tightest f*cking packaging. Screen printed foggy blurry plastic with intricate yellow zips and zaps, see-through stickers & a bonkers print on the disc of some kind of bulbous blue fiend.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
Sometimes when I can’t be f*cked to go to the studio I listen to 'Do It!' off 'Boy In Da Corner' and it sorts me out. It’s Dizzee Rascal talking about he wants to top himself but he needs to make more songs.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
I would get buck to 'Mbola (2éme Version)' by Central African Aka People.
A song you wished you had written?
Time Machine Modulus’s Battle of the Bands setlist.
Best song to turn up loud?
I really like the song ’24’ by Chief Keef. Play it off Spotify and play the song ‘Lightsource’ by David & Steve Gordon on iTunes at the same time.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Honestly, I think some people probably think I listen to super fast annoying music and f*cking prog-rock but I mostly listen to music to sample it. It’s all really bizarre slow-motion music. 'W.H' by Hatis Noit is a nice thing I listened to yesterday.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
If it’s an all-nighter I’ll probably wanna be listening to something on-the-grid with a lot of form and purpose. No wanky ambient that will lull me into sleep. I think the new Perko single would work good.
Any new artists you are listening to right now?
This kid sv1 has a lot of “tekkers”, as my little sister would say.
