Kate Shilonosova

Musician — Moscow

Name, where are you from?
Kate Shilonosova, Kazan, currently based in Moscow.

What do you do?
I Make music and videos.

Describe your style in three words?
Light, cheerful, foolish.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Ariel Pink @ Solyanka, Moscow. All tracks were awesome that night.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Gopnik — cause I was born in Kazan in the '90s and I saw with my own eyes how the police put the most dangerous gang of the district face down on my school football field, while we had a geography lesson.
Otaku — cause I love anime and manga.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
John Cage 'cause he is the most inspiring human being to me.

Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
BOL festival @ ZIL.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Expo. Japanese musician from 80s. He is so unsung that I even could not find anything about him. I’m not even sure if he had been making music alone or as a band. But the album that I have is great.

The first track you played on repeat?
I usually listen to every new song that I like on repeat. But when I was like 5 I’ve been listening to never-ending story soundtrack on repeat. And Glenn Miller’s 'In The Mood' which is weird.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Lithium' by Nirvana.

One record you would keep forever?
'Songs From A Big Chair' by Tears For Fears.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
Lyrics are usually less inspiring than the music itself.

A song you wished you had written?
'Музыкальный Конструктор' by Телескоп и Валентина Удре.

Best song to turn up loud?
Actually I prefer quiet.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Shake It Off' by Taylor Swift.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Workin' Day And Night' by Michael Jackson.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
Any beautiful song that you want people to remember.

Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Stroer Duo & Howard Fine. They are old tho…
