A White Room Photo
Name, where are you from?
Jake Smallwood, Brighton.
What do you do?
Singer in White Room.
Describe your style in three words?
Ringer T-shirt.
You can make a record with anyone from history - who would it be?
George Martin or Brian Wilson - Having either one of them in a studio would send me to Pluto and back.
What do you miss about home when you're on tour?
My cat, Dolly. Always.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been too?
Prince - Hop Farm Festival.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
Since I was a kid it's always been Weller. The quality and diversity of his career is mind blowing. Also, Richard Ashcroft, Syd Barrett and of course John Lennon.
You can spend an hour with anyone from history - who would it be and why?
Leonardo Da Vinci - picking the brains of a man who was a genius in both art and science, can't go wrong with that. Can you supply a translator?
White Room are a Rock n Roll quintet from Brighton, their latest single, a psych-tinged anthem called 'Stole the I.V' was released in November 2016 and can be streamed via Spotify below.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
'Apeman' by The Kinks.
One record you would keep forever?
'Sounds of Silence' by Simon and Garfunkel, the track 'Somewhere They Can't Find Me'.
Song you wish you had written?
'Rock n Roll Suicide' by David Bowie.
Song that defines the teenage you?
'Don't Be Shy' by The Libertines.
A song lyric that inspires you?
"You realise the sun doesn't go down,
it's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round."
'Do You Realize' by The Flaming Lips.
4 songs you can’t stop listening to right now?
'Left Hand Man' by Hidden Charms
Great songwriting on their new EP.
'No CD' by Loyle Carner
Best hip-hop track to come out in a while.
'The River' by King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizzard
The melody/groove changes are mesmerising.
'Leicester Holiday' by Bat Bike
Unbelievable riff.
