"I love all kinds of uniforms, they are a recurring, central theme in my work. There is workwear, of course. And the tailored uniform, evoking school uniforms, military attire and formal dress in general. Within youth subcultures, I have often spoken about how clothes become a code of belonging; the idea to belong to a group, to be part of a team, and how to express that through clothing. By reworking these uniforms, I soften or subvert their power, bring vulnerability or youth into traditionally rigid outfits. I love it when there are rules to be broken." Kris Van Assche
