Name, where are you from?
My name is Harriette or Hatchie. I’m from Brisbane, Australia.
Describe your style in three words?
Dreamy gazey pop.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The best gig I’ve ever been to is New Order at the Sydney Opera House in 2016. They had an orchestra and an amazing light show, as it was part of Sydney’s Vivid Festival. New Order are one of my all-time favourite bands, so it was really surreal finally seeing them live. We actually almost didn’t make the show because my flight was cancelled and our tickets were faulty (long story…) so when we finally made it in, and they were just starting up ‘Regret’, our adrenaline was really pumping.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Kate Bush and Echo & The Bunnymen - I don’t think I’ll ever get a chance to see them live otherwise!
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Post-punk, New Wave and Shoegaze, both for the music and the fashion.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Izzit True What They Tell Me – Ramona Lisa. Maybe Caroline Polachek because I think she’s one of the most talented, smart, self-assured artists of the last 20 years.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
The Forum in Melbourne is the most beautiful venue I’ve ever played. I saw The Jesus & Mary Chain there a few years back and knew I wanted to play there one day. The blue-lit starry sky ceiling is amazing.
Your greatest hero or heroine in music?
Probably Kate Bush for doing exactly what she wanted in her own time.
Hailing from Brisbane, Hatchie has just embarked on her first UK tour, with her debut EP 'Sugar and Spice' out on May 25th (2018) via UK indie label Heavenly Recordings. The EP includes latest track 'Sleep' which seems to hint at influences including Cocteau Twins and early Lush.

'Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl' by Broken Social Scene. Because I was seventeen when I discovered it and it felt really special to me.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'When You Were Young' by The Killers. Because I distinctly remember racing home to hear it the day it came out and everyone at school being obsessed with it for months.
One record you would keep forever?
'Heaven or Las Vegas' by Cocteau Twins. Because I could listen to it forever.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Curse the things that made me sad for so long" from 'Blush' by Wolf Alice.
Because it encouraged me to not just focus on my sadness.
A song you wished you had written?
'11th Dimension' by Julian Casablancas. Because it’s a perfect song.
Best song to turn up loud?
'The Whole of the Moon' - The Waterboys. Because it’s an addictive anthem.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'My My My!' by Troye Sivan. Because people think pop music has to be a guilty pleasure.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'All For You' - Janet Jackson Because it’s Janet Jackson.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Swimmers' - Broken Social Scene Because it makes you feel okay about the sun coming up.
