What do you do?

Fashion model

Where are you from?

Shizuoka (South of Tokyo) / Tokyo

Which subcultures have influenced you?

Grunge fashion. The ‘city boys’ who went to the shows I saw in fashion magazines such as Vogue significantly influenced me. I'm Japanese and based in Japan, but I loved that style and wanted to live that life. I must have appeared a little eccentric to the people around me and was pretty misunderstood during my student days.

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?

I’m going to choose the dance studio Ongaku Tengoku (Music Heaven) in my hometown of Hamamatsu and where I used to practice. I felt like I was always there. Even after I’d graduated from the sixth form, I went there every weekend, practicing for around four hours at a time.

If you could be on the line up with any bands in history?

Pink Floyd around the time they released 'The Dark Side Of The Moon'. I'd be on the guitar playing the track 'Breath'. It's a mellow song, and it would definitely feel good to play it. I'd like to express myself in that soundscape and feed off that cosmic energy.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?

I’d like to meet up with Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and go to a big party in London with lots of celebrities.

04Playlist Notes

What is the concept of the playlist?

The casting of light on something. I intuitively chose the type of music that has a certain brilliance.

The first track you played on repeat?

If we're talking about the very first, then the One Direction track 'Story of My Life'.

One record you would keep forever?

Pink Floyd's 'The Dark Side of The Moon'. I love this album the moment you press play, the room fills with a sound that makes you imagine the universe. I love the ambience you can achieve by lighting candles and listening to it.

A song lyric that has inspired you?

It’s a Japanese song called ‘Starting Over’ by Sandaime J Soul Brothers. I am always searching for meaning like the meaning of my birth, for example.

Best song to turn up loud?

‘Drag Me Down’ by One Direction. This isn’t a romantic song for me. I listen to it when I want to face my own weaknesses and overcome them. When I’m training, I get a strong sense of relief when I hear this track.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?

The Canadian artist, Shawn Mendes. I listen to him a lot.

A new act you are listening to now?

The American rapper, Machine Gun Kelly. One of my mates introduced me to him and I can relate to his straight from the heart lifestyle.
