A Terri Walker Photo
Name, where are you from?
Terri Walker, London.
Describe your style in three words?
CLASSIC, EDGY, CHIC.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
SWINDLE‘S #NoMoreNormal Gig. It was literally last night. Right now the UK is in this place of alignment. Real live music is becoming a thing people are coming out to see again. It was special because it celebrated everyone from the scene from Grime, Jazz, Soul and Funk etc. It was an Epic moment seeing it played out accompanied by a Live Band with a full-on string section.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
James Brown and Bob Marley and the Wailers. The energies, vibes alone they bring together because of their messages and delivery would be something you could never go wrong with. Both make music that speaks to the Soul in a positive way. I’m ALL OVER THAT!
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul, Classical, Folk, Country, DrumNBass, Soulful House, Funky, Lovers Rock, Reggae, Ska, Country. I could go on and on!
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Ella Fitzgerald. Just to talk about her experiences throughout her journey that made her become so undeniable. She was pitch perfect and effortlessly so. Also what it was like being best friends with Marilyn Monroe.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
The Hideaway in Streatham. The Sound is impeccable. Can hear a pin drop when it’s silent.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Donny Hathaway. His voice fills me up with warmth. I believe every word he sings because it comes from his core.
Terri Walker will collaborate with producer Joe Buhdha for a second time to release their 5-track 'Break Out' EP in May 2019. Listen to the reggae inspired lead single 'Breakout' below.
Their first collaboration was in 2014 when they released the 'Untitled to Entitled' EP which included the track 'Feel Right' which you can also listen to below.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Move Closer' by Phyllis Nelson.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg' by TLC.
One record you would keep forever?
'Everything Must Change' by Oleta Adams.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"I can’t make you love me if you don’t,
I can’t make your heart feel something it won't."
'I Can't Make You Love Me' by Bonnie Raitt.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Teardrops' by Womack and Womack.
A song you wished you had written?
'Rocket Love' by Stevie Wonder.
Best song to turn up loud?
'We Are The People' by Empire of the Sun.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Time To Say Goodbye' by Andrea Bocelli with Francesco Sartori and Sarah Brightman.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Toca's Miracle' by Fragma ft Coco Star.
Any new bands you are listening to right now?
'Kintsugi' by Children of Zeus.
'Without Prejudice' by Eckoes.
'All Life Long' by Cherri V.
