Name, where are you from?
Belako from Belako, Basque Country (In the North of Spain).

Describe your style in three words?
Eclectic shabby-luxurious.

What's the best gig you've ever been to?
We were lucky to watch together Gorillaz at Vive Latino (Mexico) after playing there in 2018, it's a very special memory for us. Their live version of 'Charger' blew our brains out.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Blonde Redhead because they have that perfect balance between dark riffs and light melodies and we would be a nice match. And The Voidz because they're simply the best.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Basque Radical Rock, not only for the '80s vibe of our music but also especially in our attitude to writing songs and performing and taking responsibility for music's political dimension.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
David Bowie. The reasons are many and obvious, but let's say to humanize him in our memory, so we could be even more impressed.

Of all the venues you've been to or played, which is your favourite?
O2 Academy Brixton opening for our friends Crystal Fighters, it was sold out and it was epic!

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Pipilotti Rist, she's a video artist but in fine arts college, we discovered her cover of Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game' renamed 'I'm A Victim Of This Song' and it is even better than the original! We are aware this is an unpopular opinion.

Belako released their new album 'Plastic Drama' in August 2020 through BMG. Listen, purchase or stream it via https://belako.tmstor.es.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?

One record you would keep forever?
'The Soft Bulletin' by Flaming Lips.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
'Somebody' by Dream Wife.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Bucky Done Gun' by M.I.A.

A song you wished you had written?
'Instant Crush' by Daft Punk and Julian Casablancas.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Baby's On Fire' by Die Antwoord.

A song people wouldn't expect you to like?
'The Winner Takes It All' by Abba is actually our favourite song to sing together during road trips!

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Out Of Space' by The Prodigy.

Any new music you are listening to right now?
Not so new but 'Party Politics' by The Rhythm Method.
'Duele' by Bomba Estéreo.
'When I Was Older' by Billie Eilish.
