Name, where are you from?
Matt from Crushed Beaks. We’re based in south London and Hertfordshire.
Describe your style in three words?
Fit geography teacher.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
TV on the Radio at Cargo were amazing. I was also lucky enough to see Elizabeth Fraser from Cocteau Twins perform at the Southbank Centre for a one-off show which was pretty special.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
This Heat and Wire, because it would make my inner music nerd very happy.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Our music takes a lot of inspiration from post-punk, just the idea of taking what’s come before and putting back together in your own way.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Richard Feynman, the American physicist, because he could explain the inner workings of the universe and make you laugh.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
The Brudenell in Leeds is amazing, they have so much good stuff on. We did a gig on Halloween there once with Metz and Mitski and a few other bands. I also saw Moon Duo in the new room recently which was great.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Martin Newell, who recorded as Cleaners from Venus. He recorded and self-released a load of albums in the '80s.
Crushed Beaks' new album 'The Other Room' was recorded with Leeds Producer, Matt Peel, known for his work with Menace Beach, Eagulls and Pulled Apart By Horses after the band caught his attention at a gig at The Brudenell. Released on 9th of August, early supporters of the album include Steve Lamacq who played the album's lead track 'Honesty Box' on his BBC 6Music show.

The first track you played on repeat?
The first album I ever bought was Dookie by Green Day, so probably the first track from that, 'Burnout'.
A song that defines the teenage you?
Angry teenage me: 'One Armed Scissor' by At the Drive-in,
Angsty teenage me: 'Planet Telex' by Radiohead,
Stoned teenage me: 'Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun' by Pink Floyd.
One record you would keep forever?
Tago Mago by Can. I could listen to the drums on ‘Halleluwah' on a loop forever. Or maybe Tusk, because Fleetwood Mac are the best.

- 'Cloudbusting' by Kate Bush. I can be quite cynical so this line is a good antidote to that.

'Vinum Sabbathi' by Electric Wizard.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Sledgehammer' by Peter Gabriel. Guaranteed to get me going any time of day or night.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
Something really calm like 'Martin Fierro' by Juana Molina.

Snapped Ankles, 'Drink and Glide'
Tropical Fuck Storm, 'You Let My Tyres Down'
