A David Wrench Photo
David Wrench. I’m from Bryngwran, Anglesey.
Eclectic Rock Beatnik.
There are many. I keep changing my mind. Public Enemy 1991 were something else. The whole show was so tight and energetic and there was an incredible atmosphere in the audience.
The Velvet Underground and Prince.
Many. I’ve never been part of one particular culture. I’ve always been influenced by many things. I’ve certainly spent time around people who are very involved with various subcultures. I love the passion. I loved the '80s goth scene. The late '80s early '90s rave scene. Grunge. Late '90s electrónica. I have always had a soft spot for the more extreme forms of metal. But the scene I was most involved in was the Welsh language indie scene - 'Y Sin Roc Cymraeg'.
Buddug / Boudica.
Clwb Ifor Bach. In Cardiff. I’ve played there so many times in so many bands. From a teenager until now. I love the audience there and it has a real magic. Big love to all the independent venues across the country though, I love playing venues where it’s all about a love of music.
'Satori' by Flower Travellin’ Band. Everyone should know this album.
'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush.
'Atmosphere' by Joy Division.
'Forever Changes' by Love.
'Can i Gymru' by Datblygu. A perfect description of all that was wrong with the mainstream Welsh culture growing up there in the '80s. Hearing that put into words suddenly made the world a much less lonely place.
'Le Freak' by Chic.
'Venus In Furs' by Velvet Underground.
'Breakin The Law' by Judas Priest.
'Vitamin C' by Can.
'Space 1.8' by Nala Sinephro.
'La Perla' by Sofia Kourtesis.
'Ballad 21' by Zohara.
'Grace' by Hercules & Love Affair.
