A Cassia Photo
Name, where are you from?
We are Cassia and we're from Macclesfield.
Describe your style in three words?
Casual, beachy, oversized.
What's the best gig you've ever been to?
I saw Tame Impala in Blackpool in 2019. It was like a three-thousand cap venue or something so pretty small for them and it was just insane. The production was mental, the set was sick, they had lasers and sh*t. It blew my mind.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
The Beatles and Bob Marley. Because the idea of being able to watch those shows would be ridiculously cool. There are probably hundreds of absolutely legendary artists/bands that I'd
pick but it'd always be just so I can actually experience them live. To be able to see them do their thing so close up would be mad.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I don't know what subculture I've been really influenced by really. I probably have but I don't realise it. Maybe the musos (geek out of over music stuff...), they're the kind of groups I always ended up in cos I loved talking about music and things. I love meeting new people and just chatting for hours about what we love about different music we've been listening to. I think it brings all kinds of people together and you end up having this exciting child-like conversation about music. That's my bag.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
This is a pretty hard question, maybe Freddie Mercury. I feel like that'd be a crazy hour.
Of all the venues you've been to or played, which is your favourite?
Probably the Ritz in Manchester, the energy was just mental and it was kind of a home town show so we had a load of friends there. I love venues where most of the people are right in front of you rather than up high or to the sides so I always love playing the Ritz!
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
My greatest unsung heroine is probably Carol Kaye, an absolutely legendary bass player, she played on probably thousands of iconic songs but not many people outside of music know the name at all. She's so cool and was playing jazz guitar and bass at a time when it was well male-dominated so to have the dedication/persistence to be the only woman in the room is kind of amazing.
Cassia will release their new album 'Why You Lacking Energy' in July 2022. Pre-order or pre-save it via cassia.lnk.to/WhyYouLackingEnergy.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Dani California' by The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Wait' by M83 from 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming'.
One record you would keep forever?
'Brown Sugar' by D'Angelo.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"And all the weekend rockstars are in the toilets / Practising their lines"
From 'Fake Tales of San Francisco' by Arctic Monkeys.
"Love, let me sleep tonight on your couch / And remember the smell of the fabric / Of your simple city dress"
From 'So Real' by Jeff Buckley.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Higher Ground' by Stevie Wonder.
A song you wished you had written?
'Multi-Love' by Unkown Mortal Orchestra.
Best song to turn up loud?
'LITE SPOTS' by KAYTRANADA.
A song people wouldn't expect you to like?
'Say So' by Doja Cat.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'So Real' by Jeff Buckley.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Views' by Noga Erez.
'Under The Magnolia Tree' by Pale Jay.
'Get Me Some' by TOKiMONSTA.
'Cold Feet' by Tayo Sound.
'Keep On Calling' by Nilüfer Yanya.
'JENN!FER AN!STON' by Evann Mcintosh.
