Name
My name is Duncan X. It's my real name, I changed it by deed-poll when I was younger.
What do you do?
I am a tattooist and I have my own style of invention.
Where are you from?
I grew up in Bromley in South London. I was 13 in 1978 and I witnessed the birth of Punk Rock, as it happened on the streets and in the pubs and parks of suburbia. I spent that time mainly running away from bigger, scary individuals (like I have become).
A music icon that has inspired you?
The Sex Pistols were obviously a massive influence but I also loved bands like The Jam, the Stranglers, Ian Dury, Bowie.
First song you played on repeat?
The first record I owned and played to death was the single 'Trash' by Roxy Music, and I still love it.
What has been your all-time favourite gig?
I saw Iggy Pop play when I was 17 and he touched me - physically (on the head) and spiritually (in the heart).
What music did you listen to growing up?
My life has had an ear for punk music, a mod revival, skin heads, soul boys and disco, New Romantics, indie bands and even a summer of love in ‘88.
Who do you listen to in your studio?
I now have the whole history of popular music playing while I work, tailored to my personal taste by technology (Spotify). Amazing. In fact, I have to confess I was in a band myself in the early 90’s called Sheep on Drugs. It's still there on the internet...
