A Isabelle Brown Photo
Name, where are you from?
Isabelle Brown, Brighton.
Describe your style in three words?
Better than yours ;-P
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The best gig I’ve ever been to was the Black Pumas gig because Eric Burton (main vocalist) never fails to entertain the crowd with his charismatic personality.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Dave and Anderson .Paak. The reason why I chose them is that anyone who’s going to see them must have good taste so I hope they would appreciate my music too.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
'90s hip-hop, in my earlier stuff on SoundCloud I took instrumentals from a couple of '90s hip-hop groups such as A Tribe Called Quest and Eric B and Rakim. I would also say jazz and neo-soul have influenced my music a lot because I work with a lot of jazz players and listen to artists that sit in those subcultures e.g D’Angelo and Ms. Lauryn Hill.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I would like to spend an hour with James Brown just to get some tips on how he commanded the stage.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
One of my favourite venues was in Cork, Ireland at the Irish Independent Park, the whole experience was like a dream come true. I was supporting Ms. Lauryn Hill, I was there with all my family and friends, I got free food and to top things off, the crowd were so warm and welcoming to me when I came on stage.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
My favourite singer who deserves a lot more recognition than she has is Jazmine Sullivan. Her powerhouse vocals and technical ability are out of this world and I aspire to be able to sing like her.
