03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Jack and Eddie of Kid Kapichi. We’re from the rough and ready seaside town of Hastings.

Describe your style in 3 words?
Classic yet understated.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
We saw The Specials in Munich, whilst we were supporting Frank Carter. Our tour bus was parked next to theirs and Eddie (who has seen them many times) went over and introduced himself to Horace Panter, told him our situation, and got us free guest passes to the show. It was totally off the cuff but turned out to be one of the best gigs we’ve ever been to.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
The Clash and Queens of the Stone Age. The Clash has influenced us massively, we love the way they manage to combine pop with punk in the least cheesy way possible.  And Queens of the Stone Age, coz who wouldn’t wanna spend a night with Josh Homme?

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Myself (Jack) and Eddie’s style has been hugely influenced by the skinhead subculture. We’ve always loved the 'ready for anything' vibe. Whether that be dinner with the in-laws or a night on the town. It just works. Growing up listening to the bands we listened to and watching the films we watched, it greatly influenced us.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Thierry Henry, maybe he’s not a historical figure YET. But he will be and I just wanna hug the guy.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
Elysee Montmartre in Paris. It was our first ever European gig and the crowd was absolutely insane, the people of France are incredible. Not to mention it was in an amazing part of the city and just one of the most beautiful venues we’ve ever seen. We can’t wait to go back.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
The late Dale Barclay of The Amazing Snakeheads certainly changed our lives and musical direction. I can only imagine he did the same for many many more. Unfortunately, he left us far too young and would have gone on to do so many more incredible things, I’m sure.

Kid Kapichi will release their debut album 'This Time Next Year' on 5th February 2021. Pre-order it now at www.kidkapichi.com.
