A Leo Lore Photo
Name, where are you from?
My name’s Leo Lore and I’m based in South-East London.
What do you do?
I’m a singer and songwriter, currently doing a degree and working.
Describe your style in three words?
Old-skool soul.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Ahhh, there are too many to pick... but my most recent favourite has to be Little Simz in Brixton - it was mad, she’s just something else!!
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
It would have to be Billie Holiday and Amy Winehouse… I reckon we’d have a right laugh!
Which subcultures have influenced you?
To be honest, I’d like to think I take influence from a load of different subcultures, I’m inspired by so much different music and I hope that comes across in the music I create.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Would have to be Nina Simone, I reckon she’d be mad interesting to talk to, although I don’t think an hour would be nearly enough time... I’d need a few days I think.
Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
There are so many goodns but I’m gonna have to big up my hometown and say Norwich Arts Centre - it’s a lush intimate space with amazing sound and energy, it’s definitely my favourite place to play in Norwich, I’ve seen some of my favourite artists there and it holds a proper nostalgic place in my heart!
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Someone who I've thought is way underrated is Sampa The Great - I think she’s one of the best things to happen to music in a long long time!
The first track you played on repeat?
That’s a hard one to remember, but I think it was probably something like 'Hit The Road Jack' by Ray Charles.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Fake Tales Of San Francisco' by Arctic Monkeys.
One record you would keep forever?
'Youth Dem Cold' by Richie Spice - (my first ever record!).
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“The world’s flooding back in, say nothing unless it’s soothing,
Here’s another thing, there’s always something.”
From 'The World is Flooding Back In' by Galli.
A song you wished you had written?
So many… but currently: 'Lay Down' by Son Little.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Paypack' by Kojey Radical.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Like That' by Doja Cat.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Betty' by Pa Salieu.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'For Emma' by Bon Iver.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
They’re not that new, but an artist I’m really excited about is Gaidaa, her voice and songs are beeaauutiful!! Also, a London local, Sarah Meth - she’s killing it too! oooo and SAULT!
