Name, where are you from?
I’m LOONY, and I’m from Toronto.
What do you do?
Singer/songwriter.
Describe your style in three words?
Vintage. Comfy. Scarborough.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I admittedly haven’t been to very many shows in my life... which is odd, considering what I do. I think one of my faves though was OVO Fest like five or six years ago. Kanye came out as a surprise guest and I lost my mind. He played a bunch of older stuff and I wasn’t ready for it and I damn near cried.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Definitely Amy Winehouse and D’Angelo. Like??? Could you imagine a show that just had those two casually on the line-up? That’s gotta be one of the craziest shows I could imagine. I love them both so much.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I had to google exactly what ‘subcultures’ are. I’m not really sure how to apply this to myself - not in a shady way, I’m just not hip enough. I’m just mostly influenced by my environment and by everyday things/feelings.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Definitely Toni Morrison. I love her writing so much, and the energy she gives off in her documentary is just so warm, so I pick her. I feel like she would drop some gems and start up a conversation that would end up breaking my brain - in the best way.
Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
The Stone Cottage in Scarborough was so dope.. we set up the entire top floor a few years ago with my entire band. It was nice to play a private show in MY neighbourhood, and not travel across to the other side of town. Also, the food slapppped.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
I still feel like Jazmine Sullivan needs even more recognition than she’s already getting. I’d without a doubt say she’s one of the most incredible and distinct voices of a generation. She’s amazing and deserves it all.

The first track you played on repeat?
Oh man, I’m trynna think back to being a little kid. I was often playing songs I loved on repeat. The first one that comes to mind was 'Come See About Me' by The Supremes. I was obsessed.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Bag Lady' by Erykah Badu. I really fell in love with her around fourteen years old and then her music just became the soundtrack to my life at that time.
One record you would keep forever?
'Love Deluxe' by Sade - is just so damn good from start to finish. It feels so cleansing! I’m never not in the mood to listen to it.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"I know how people work/ I know the price of life, I'm knowing how much it's worth/ I know what I know and I know it well not to ever forget/ Until I realized I didn't know shit/ The day I came home"
From 'Momma' by Kendrick Lamar. This has gotta be one of my fave songs all-around. When it gets to the point where he says this... it just hits me in my chest every time.
A song you wished you had written?
I really wish I’d written 'When The Party’s Over' by Billie Eilish.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Freeze Tag' by Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, 9th Wonder, Phoelix. I love this song so damn much.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'House of Wolves' by My Chemical Romance.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Buy U A Drank' by T-Pain LOL.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'What They Do' by The Roots always gets me feeling real grounded. It’s so calming and nostalgic. If I was looking to wind down but still feel real good, I’d probably play this song.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
I’ve lately been super into Mereba, Terrace Martin and Ambrose Akinmusire.
