Name, what do you do?
Hi, I’m Marcus and I’m a singer-songwriter.
Describe your style in three words?
Messy but pretty.
What does the Fred Perry Shirt mean to you?
I think the Fred Perry shirt is a very versatile piece and a staple to anyone’s wardrobe. You can dress it up with a jacket, trousers and loafers or dress it down with jeans and sneakers. Like a basic white tee, it is a must-have in every wardrobe.
You can make a record with anyone from history?
Kurt Cobain for sure, the greatest of all time no doubt about it.
Songs that define the teenage you?
'Hold On Till May' by Pierce The Veil.
Song you wish you had written?
I stumbled upon this artist called Milky Day recently, he has this song titled 'Feeling Blue', it has really good lyrical finesse and the melody goes so well with it, I wish I had written it the first time I heard it.
What has been the best gig you've been to?
Definitely the one where I opened for Sam Kim’s concert, I was so surprised that the audience actually sang along to my songs, it was really heart-warming and one that left a deep impression on me.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
I can never forget the nights spent gigging at a bar called LeNoire in Clarke Quay, I could easily say Esplanade or The Padang but I will always remember the crowd and the atmosphere performing at LeNoir.
The last music you bought?
I can’t recall when was the last time I actually purchased a song on iTunes but I am subscribed to Spotify so I guess that’s a form of buying music?
What new music are you listening to?
I’ve been listening to a lot of lo-fi, R&B and Thai-pop music lately. There’s one that I really like, titled 'Oasis' by Patrickananda.
'She Likes Spring, I Prefer Winter' by slchld.
This is my song choice to start off my day; it helps get me into the right mood before I do anything.
'Feeling Blue' by Milky Day.
I just reallyyyyy love the lyrical play and the melody here.
'Baby Rye' by Fern.
Fern.’s got many good songs but there are only a few that I find myself going back to, and this is one of them.
'2 Soon' by Keshi.
I got many favourites from Keshi but this is definitely one that puts you in a good mood. My favourite line from the song is “8 calls, all you, 8 ball, all you”.
'Faded Moments' by Sway Bleu (ft. Riyah).
This is a new one that I discovered recently, definitely a feel good song.
'Jersey' by Mayday Parade.
It’s my dream to perform this song at emo nights; it would be a dream comes true. So hit me up emo nights SG!
'Someone Like U' by Lullaboy.
The chill vibes that this song gives help me relax - great to listen to when you’re just chilling at home.
'Thunder' by Boys Like Girls.
This. Is. My. All. Time. Favourite. Song. <3
'Robbers' by The 1975.
My favourite from The 1975. To me, everything about this song encapsulates that era of the band.
'จดหมาย (Jot Mai/Letter)' by The Toys.
As mentioned I’ve been listening to a lot of Thai-pop lately and it has definitely influenced my songwriting process. There are many The Toys songs that I would include in this list but this is a special one to me as it’s the song that made me love Thai-pop so much.
'ถาม (thǎam/Ask)' by Meyou.
This is a new one that I’ve been having on repeat, a fun song to play on the piano too.
'Heartache' by ONE OK ROCK.
My favourite song from ONE OK ROCK. I prefer the Japanese version but it’s not on Spotify so...
