A Matt Berry Photo
Name, where are you from?
Matt Berry from Bedford.
Describe your style in three words?
Roger Farfisa Niagara.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Glastonbury 1995 - the whole experience.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands or artists in history?
The Doors at the London Fog and Jean Michel-Jarre at the Place De La Concorde 1979.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Anything that includes individualism without any worship of individuals.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Butch Cassidy or Judas Iscariot because I would not only be listening to them, but I’d also be having a good look at the world around them.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
Koko - I think it’s perfectly proportioned to watch as well as play.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Herbie Flowers. Some people will know of his contribution and if you don’t, he’s worth looking up. And the band Tennis.
Matt Berry's latest album 'The Blue Elephant' - will be released via Acid Jazz on 14th May. Pre-order here.
The first track you played on repeat?
Today? 'Comme Toi' by Clara Luciani.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Push The Feeling On' by Nightcrawlers. That track with the fake saxophone - every car or club I went in had that f*cking tune playing.
One record you would keep forever?
The copy of 'Tubular Bells' my Mum bought for me.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"I'll know my song well before I start singin"
From 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' by Bob Dylan.
A song you wished you had written?
'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' by Neil Young.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Move Your Feet' by Junior Senior.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Call Me Maybe' by Carly Rae Jepsen.
The song to get you straight on the dancefloor?
'The Night' by Frankie Valli.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'When I’m With You' by Best Coast. It’s the perfect tune to slink off with someone at the end of the night just before everyone else does.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Caroline Polachek - newish...
