Name, where are you from?
My name is Molly Payton and I’m from New Zealand but live in London!
Describe your style in three words?
Scruffy Cowboy Grandpa.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I saw Trudy And The Romance when I first moved to London - they’re crazy good.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Ooh, that’s tough. I’d say Elvis and The Smashing Pumpkins would be an excellent night.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I’d say my main influences would be early '70s hippie culture and mid 90s slacker/grunge.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Definitely Leonard Cohen - he’s my hero.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Playing the Roundhouse supporting Palace last year was amazing, I went to my first gig in London there and recorded my first song in the student studios underneath the venue so being on that stage felt crazy.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
This changes constantly for me but my heroes at the moment are Happyness. Their music gives me this warm excited feeling that I used to only be able to find in music from older bands like Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Smashing Pumpkins.

From 'Chelsea Hotel' by Leonard Cohen. Anything Leonard Cohen really - I read his poetry books when I have writer's block. 'Chelsea Hotel' was one of the first songs that made me want to write.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Bennie and the Jets' - Elton John.
A song you wished you had written?
'Fruits Of My Labour' by Lucinda Williams.
Best song to turn up loud?
'I’m Sick Of You' by The Stooges.
Best song to bring people together?
'Young Hearts Run Free' by Candi Stanton.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Sugar Water' by Cibo Matto.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'My Rifle, My Pony And Me' by Dean Martin is lovely if you want to fall asleep in the back of a cab.
