Describe your style in three words?
Confident, uncompromising, sharp.
The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?
The Cure - A Forest
As a first 7 inch I ever bought, I feel lucky to have chosen a track that has stood the test of time and still sounds so haunting and atmospheric. And again, and again and again, and again and again.
A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?
My Bloody Valentine - To Here Knows When - Remastered Version
The wonderment of trying to decipher what sounds like three songs playing at the same time will never leave me. Thinking that I have never heard anything sonically like this ever before, I defy anyone not to listen to this for the first time and simply not know what is going on.
A song from your most memorable gig?
Underworld - Jumbo
Glastonbury 1999, Underworld performing second headliners on the Pyramid stage, touring the Beaucoup Fish album, brought a wave of euphoric groove, summed up in the deep keyboard chords to the chorus crescendo in Jumbo that will never leave me.
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
Augustus Pablo - King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown
The bass line that evokes the start of the dub universe for me, instantly transforms wherever I may be into a converted dancefloor. The dreamy melodica interspersed with the echoes and choppy rimshots still hypnotises me to this day.
A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?
Squid - Houseplants
The freshness and verve of an uncompromising spirit of punk past. Ballsy and energetic, using tempo and pause as a driving musical weapon, touching upon social comment and nods to influences within the vigorously delivered lyrics.
Best song to turn up loud? And why?
Snapped Ankles - Rechargeable
I listen to this on my headphones and instantly reach for the volume button, I need, I need, I need a pulse.
A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?
David Bowie - Aladdin Sane - 2013 Remastered Version
Listening to the gorgeously sumptuous piano runs conjures up many deep memories of listening to one Bowie album after another, after another, in no end of discovery and education of the great man.
An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?
Klute - Ashram
Beautiful Hindi style tablas and spice tinged angelic feminine vocal samples melt harmoniously into the fierce wobbling deep bass line to create a truly hybrid modern paean.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
Dif Juz - Crosswinds
A stunning wind down to draw the night in and ease down after an epic euphoric journey. Mesmerising saxophone snakes over gentle ambient percussion to create the chill out to end any night.
