A Priestgate Photo
Name, where are you from?
I'm Rob Schofield - I'm from the sleepy town of Driffield, East Yorkshire.
Describe your style in three words?
Vests, slacks and beige.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
That's a tough one, I saw Yak a couple of years ago - they were nothing short of amazing. I turned up knowing nothing about them, I think that's probably why I enjoyed their set so much. I think having no expectations really helped me indulge in what they're all about. 'White Male Carnivore' by them is one of my favourite tracks at the minute, check them out if you haven't already.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
I'm gonna go with Bowie and Black Sabbath, why? Well... Bowie is Bowie and Black Sabbath are Black Sabbath. 'Let's Dance' and 'N.I.B' are probably my favourites. My old man played me them when I was very young, I think that's why I hold them close to my heart. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Probably Goths, I'm a big fan of eyeliner - especially on men.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I've always wondered how John Lennon was so prolific, I'd love to pick his brain for an hour or two - 'Jealous Guy' is a stand out track of his for me. If I ever need a good cry then that's my go-to.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
The Polar Bear will always hold a special place in my heart, there's a real sense of community there. Almost like a home away from home - Mark if you're reading this. Priestgate love you.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
I'd have to say, James Ford, I remember hearing 'Everything You've Come To Expect' by The Last Shadow Puppets for the first time, and being completely blown away - I'm a really big fan of his work. I often feel producers don't get the credit they deserve.
Priestgate recently released their new track 'Bedtime Story' via Lucky Number. Listen, purchase or stream it via ffm.to/priestgate-bedtimestory.
The first track you played on repeat?
'In Da Club' by 50 Cent.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'How Long Have You Known' by DIIV.
One record you would keep forever?
'Slowdive' by Slowdive.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"I look so good in black I always do"
From 'Hollow Thing' by LIFE.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Never Too Much' by Luther Vandross.
A song you wished you had written?
'Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye' by Leonard Cohen.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Straight Outta Compton' by N.W.A.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Estrellita' by Eddie Barbash, Kyle Athayde.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Sweet Thang' by Shuggie Otis.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'I Cannot Care' by Tré Burt.
