A Raheaven Photo
Name, where are you from?
Hiii I’m Raheaven from North London.
Describe your style in three words?
Soft, Bright, baddie.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Kendrick Lamar 2012 electric ballroom, section 80 tour. it was my first ever gig. It was amazing. Hiiipower obviously was crazy when he performed it.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Nelly Furtado, I love all her work with Timbaland, one of the greatest producers of our time. all her songs with him sound like mesmerising sequences and patterns to me with a good pop/RnB balance. It's a unique recipe of things I love. And Brandy because she is a living icon and I love her voice, I have memorised every riff and run she has ever sung on all of her songs. To me, she is the epitome of RnB.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Early 2000s RnB, black British / Eritrean diaspora culture, baby ghetto goth Tumblr era, all things that every alt black girl has in them.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Amy Winehouse because she is a national treasure, her music is gold, and she is the queen of my heart. I would love to have a chat with her and maybe just even have a laugh, nothing too serious because I think her music does so much of the speaking for her.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
I supported Kwaye at Omeara. I think It has to be my favourite because the venue is so beautiful to me. I'm also fortunate to be Kwayes friend, we studied together so it was so nice to support him at his headline show.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
He is of legendary status to me. I think in this fast-paced and instant reality that we live in now with the way we consume music, Frank Ocean does things at his own pace. He finessed the music industry by buying back his masters and still has his integrity.
Raheaven recently released her latest single 'Talk Back'. You can listen, purchase or stream it via https://orcd.co/raheaventalkback.
The first track you played on repeat?
'I Wish You Loved Me' by Tynisha Keli - on my mp3 player to school.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Lose My Breath' by Destiny's Child.
One record you would keep forever?
'CTRL' by SZA!!!
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“I gotta dream big, cause when it happens its gon’ happen real quick”
From 'Dream Big' by Jasmine Sullivan. You never know when you’re three steps away from reaching your goals.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Body Count' by Odunsi (The Engine), Amaarae etc. A bop.
A song you wished you had written?
'Like I Want You' by Giveon.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Boss Ass Bitch' by Nicki Minaj.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Vincent (Starry Starry Night) by Don McLean, it's about Van Gogh, kinda sad and beautiful.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Same Ol’ Mistakes' by Rihanna.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
July 7, Tems, Yeat, JVCK JAMES, Che Ecru.
