Describe your style in three words?
This Is England
The first track you played on repeat?
Jackie Wilson - Why Can't You Be Mine
Jackie Wilson is my favourite artist of all time. Ever. I first started listening to Jackie Wilson as a kid growing up in rock 'n' roll clubs. This song has been a staple for me since my early teens and has never been left out of rotation since.
A song from your favorite album?
Amy Winehouse - Moody's Mood For Love / Teo Licks
I've listened to Frank back to front more times than I can count. Frank is definitely up there at the top. Moody's Mood For Love is my favourite track on the album just because I love the slow jazz melody and the timing and range of Amy's vocal is so smoo
A song from your most memorable gig?
Stranger - Give Me the Right
4 years ago I took mum to the London International Ska Festival at The Forge in Camden. I had no idea who the DJs were, and still don't; 1 turntable each, the maddest sound-system, and the best ska I've ever heard! This was the only tune I managed to get
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
Charlie Rich - Midnight Blues
It was at the Rockers Reunion at the Ace Cafe that I heard this song and seeing the whole dance floor fill up got me excited. This song is a staple of the rockin' scene, and it always gets a good holler and crams the floor with strollers, including myself
A new song you're listening to?
Lady Wray - Do It Again
I find it hard to find new artists that I love, but I looove Lady Wray. I was introduced to this track by Adrian Jae on his Portobello Radio show and as soon as I heard the first 10 seconds it I knew I was going to love it. Always my go-to shower song.
Best song to turn up loud?
Chaka Khan - I'm Every Woman
The reason I turn this one up loud is because I'm usually belting it out at about 98% of my vocal allowance and when it ups the note to the 'I'M EVERY WOMAN' bit I need the assistance of the actual track to drown out my singing...
A song that defines the teenage you?
The Specials - Rat Race
I was a pop-punk baby and Good Charlotte etc. were my go-to jams from about the age of 9, but by the time I was 14 I was into subculture and my first stop was ska. It was all about The Specials for me, and this tune was actually mine and my first boyfrien
An anthemic song?
Jamiroquai - When You Gonna Learn? - Remastered
The lyrics are what make this song so powerful! Big dance floor track and I'll always chuck this in mid-Disco set because it sounds great, but also is a critique of the modern capitalist world and the lyrics are an eco-warriors dream, what more could you
Best song to end an all-nighter?
Ace Spectrum - Don't Send Nobody Else
This is like 8am at the afters, sitting in the garden on no sleep chilling with a beer watching the sun come up kind of track. The blast into the chorus literally makes me think of the sun coming up in my garden and instantly takes me back to that warm me
