A The Academic Photo
Name, where are you from?
We’re The Academic from Westmeath, Ireland.
Describe your style in three words?
Energetic, Vibrant, Sun Soaked.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Arcade Fire
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history - who would they be?
Talking Heads and The Cure.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Late 80’s alt bands have a lot. We also grew up during the height of the New York indie explosion so it was hard not to take influence from that.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history - who would it be?
The big JC (just kidding - probably John Lennon)
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Vicar Street in Dublin. It’s been our biggest headline to date and it’s where we were first given a chance on a bigger stage as a support act.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Carol Kaye. She’s probably the best bass player of all time, but not exactly a household name.
The Academic have just landed a support slot opening for The Rolling Stones at Croke Park in May. Their debut LP 'Tales From The Backseat' is out now.
The first track you played on repeat?
Thin Lizzy - 'Dancing In The Moonlight'
A song that defines the teenage you?
The Strokes - 'Hard To Explain'
One record you would keep forever?
The Beatles - 'Revolver'
A song lyric that has inspired you?
The Beatles - 'I’m Only Sleeping!'
A song you wished you had written?
Dean Martin - 'Everybody Loves Somebody'
Best song to turn up loud?
Bjork - 'It’s Oh So Quiet'
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Usher - 'Confessions Part 2'
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
Ariel Pink - 'Another Weekend'
