Describe your style in three words?
Are we there, yet?
The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?
Max Richter - Infra 2
I hate repetition. I'm a fast-forward person. Just like Max Richter. He's ahead of his time with his music. And always will be.
A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?
Tom Waits - Kommienezuspadt
Not my favourite album. But an important song about being in time. Being in time has gone out of fashion. I haven't had a date with someone being on schedule in forever.
A song from your most memorable gig?
The Velvet Underground - Venus In Furs
From the show at Max's Kansas City, New York in the late '70s. Never been there but dreamt I was. Watching Lou Reed from the back of the venue. Standing next to Andy Warhol and Julian Schnabel. Amazing gig.
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
Mazzy Star - Look On Down From The Bridge
I'm not a dancer. If so I'd probably dance to this. Slow motion sadness. Straight into pain. Roll over, Lana.
A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?
Louis Armstrong - Mack the Knife
Not a new song but a classic that never gets old. Who doesn't love Brecht? We(i)ll, there you have it for the roaring Twenties.
Best song to turn up loud? And why?
Oneohtrix Point Never - Age Of
17th century disco. Whigs-in-the-air ecstasy. The French house sound in their day.
A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?
Sonic Youth - Tunic (Song For Karen)
"I just want to be let alone" (Greta Garbo). Defines and defies my teenage me. Inner turmoil. Confusion. You aren't never going anywhere.
An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?
Leonard Cohen - Anthem
The ultimate anthem. Here you have it. It cannot get any more anthemic. No explanation needed. The king of anthems.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin - Single Version
Spent. Exhausted. Bloodshot eyes. An eerie song to slowly drift into uneasy dreams. "Never reaching the end."
