03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Yoshitsune Ogahara, Sakai-machi, Sashima-gun, Shimotsuma city, Ibaraki, Japan.

What do you do?
Actor.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Generally speaking, I choose not to go to gigs, I would be happy to watch a gig if it was for myself, alone, like I want it all to myself… That being said, I have watched live clips of Gesu no Kiwami Otome tens of times. I want to get people outside of Japan to watch them play as all of the members are amazing. Frequent use of tension chords with super catchy hooks. Their gig named as ‘Otome wa Kawaru’ at NHK hall is my recommendation. You could find it on YouTube, uploaded in response to COVID-19 situation.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
If I had to choose, I would mention the Sex Pistols. UNDERCOVER, my favourite fashion label’s designer called Jun Takahashi a.k.a ‘Jonio‘ formed a covers band called the Tokyo Sex Pistols. I cannot leave the Sex Pistols aside.

If you could be on the line up with any bands in history?
I want to make a huge noise so, a passionate, loud gig would be cool. The gig of ‘Heisei Ishin’ by KGDR (or KING GIDDRA back then) came to mind.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I would love to see Daughter's vocalist, Elena Tonra up close as she performs on guitar. As close as the scene on one of the music video which was shot on the train if I remember correctly. I would also love to get to know her better to be honest! An hour to get along, and gain more than an actual hour could do.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Ex:Re, the solo project of Elena Tonra.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
I feel shamed for such a mediocre answer but, it is 'Creep' by Radiohead. I heard the song the first time watching them play it on live footage.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Put On' by Jay Z. I found this song through a collection of highlights of Allen Iverson in the NBA. I don't know what he's talking about, but the song definitely inspired me.

One record you would keep forever?
'If You Leave' by Daughter. I think it contains more tracks that I have played a lot, than other albums. Oh yeah, 'Battle' (2018 film) on Netflix introduced me to the band.

Best song to turn up loud?'
'Creep' by Radiohead. That part the goes "run run run…".

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Jorja Smith.

Any new music you are listening to now?
Ichikoro. A Japanese instrumental band that Enon Kawatani (of Gesu no Kiwami Otome) called Ichika (guitarist) which led to its formation.
