03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Honey Gentry - London, UK.

Describe your style in three words?
Casual summertime cherub.

Whatʼs the best gig youʼve ever been to?
Back in 2008, I was lucky enough to have been at what I believe was Gwen Stefaniʼs only London gig as a solo artist. She was a childhood idol of mine - still is - and it was one of the most vivid moments where I knew that I wanted to be just like her.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
The Mamas and the Papas and Joni Mitchell… preferably at some festival out in Topanga… I feel like it would be amazing to have tasted the spirit of the times. Iʼd play dreamy acoustic versions of every song with backing vocals galore and flowers in my hair.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Definitely the 'Summer of Love' - that 1967-69 timeframe - to me itʼs a defining moment in history that still influences how we view things now whether politically or culturally, it still shows up in art, music, fashion and film.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Leonard Cohen - Iʼd like to think we could share in some Virgoan dry wit and that I would come away from the meeting somehow wiser.

Of all the venues youʼve been to or played, which is your favourite?
The Sebright Arms, London - where I played my first headline show! I always feel so comfortable there.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Nicole Dollanganger. She creates the most captivating world thatʼs totally unique to her. I donʼt think thereʼs anyone else truly like her.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Whenever, Wherever' by Shakira.
I was about 6. I was obsessed with the part with the horses in the music video.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Famous Last Words' by My Chemical Romance.

One record you would keep forever?
'Wish You Were Here' by Pink Floyd. My dadʼs lifelong copy. He wrote an essay about the artwork when he was in school.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
“Asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over…”
From 'Dream Brother' by Jeff Buckley. The closing lyrics on 'Grace', one of my favourite albums. Stuns me every time.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Emotional Machine' by Marina.

A song you wished you had written?
'Heart Of Gold' by Neil Young.

Best song to turn up loud?
'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac.

A song people wouldnʼt expect you to like?
'Helicopter' by J Hus.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Ray of Light' by Madonna.

Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Asc. Scorpio' by Oracle Sisters.
'Roddy' by Djo.
