Name, where are you from?
Hey, I’m Maisi, I’m from South London.

Describe your style in three words?
Thrifted, colourful, '90s.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Either Charli XCX at Brixton O2 or LCD Soundsystem at Alexandra Palace. Charli, because it was amazing seeing an artist I’ve loved for so long in real life and LCD Soundsystem cause I went with a really good friend of mine and we just danced non-stop for the whole night. Such a good memory.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Charli XCX and Lily Allen (my fav British artists ever).

Which Subcultures have influenced you?
When I was younger I suppose goth culture influenced me a bit. When I discovered Lorde’s first album, Pure Heroine, I just wanted to be like her, and she was super influenced by goth subculture at the time, so I did my best to always wear black and loads of eyeliner. I like dressing a lot more colourful now, but still, try to wear as much eyeliner as possible. I also definitely had a grunge phase. I remember when I was 14 someone saying to me at school they could tell I was super grungy from my hair, I just went along with it, even though I didn’t know what it meant. But when I got home and googled it, I realised I was quite grungy. So I bought a few more oversized plaid shirts and went for it.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Amy Winehouse. For me, she is a massive songwriting and artistic inspiration. I loved the way she presented herself and how honest she was. I would love to just chat with her about her views on music and the world.

Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
Ohh that’s hard. Maybe Dingwalls in Camden. I’ve seen quite a few gigs there and it was the first place I ever did an open mic when I was about 14. It’s such a cool venue, with so much history. I think it’s a great place.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Willow Kayne. She’s just released an EP and I looove it. Her song 'I Don’t Wanna Know' was my top played song last year on Spotify. I’m embarrassed to say how many times I listened, but it was a lot!

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Grace Kelly' by Mika.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'The Fear' by Lily Allen. My favourite song as a teenager and the first song I learned to play on the piano. A super important song for me.

One record you would keep forever?
'F*ck Me Pumps' by Amy Winehouse. I will always need Amy in my life.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
"They'll hang us in the Louvre,
Down the back, but who cares-still the Louvre"

From 'The Louvre' by Lorde.

A song you wished you had written?
'Want Me' by Baby Queen. Some incredible lyrics and has been one of my favourite songs since I heard it. Baby Queen's music style is a big inspiration for me right now. Whenever I go into a session she’s always one of my reference tracks. When I was in the studio writing Yellow Line, my next single, I had just discovered her EP Medicine. I played it to Jack Bowden, my producer and a co-writer for this track, and a few Charli XCX tracks and that led us to the Yellow Line sound.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Hot Mess' by GIRLI. Love the attitude in this song. GIRLI is an icon and I can definitely relate to this song haha.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Fit But You Know It' by The Streets.

The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'I love It' by Icona Pop and Charli XCX.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
'In The Morning' by Razorlight.

Any new bands/artists you are into at the moment?
Spyres' 'I Don’t Care' or 'Otherside'. Not a band but loving Abbie Ozard's 'Heartbreak Radio'. Also not a band but love Phoebe Green's 'Reinvent'. Lola Young's 'Blind Love'. A beautiful song.
