Tia O’Donnell

Illustrator — County Kerry

Name, where are you from?
Tia O’Donnell, born and raised in London. But my second home is in County Kerry, Ireland.

What do you do?
I am an Artist, Illustrator and Model currently studying at CSM.

Describe your style in three words?
Beyond the pale.

Which music defines the teenage you?
I have been to the year three thousand, not much has changed but they lived underwater. (Obviously Busted)

What has been your all-time favourite gig?
Got to be Bombay Bicycle Club when I was roughly 15, I was trampled on in an indie mosh pit. So rock and roll.

What is your favourite independent venue to watch live music?
My local pub. Or any old pub, to be honest, the more intimate the better.

Do you have a favourite local record shop?
Alan’s Records in good old East Finchley! Such a hidden gem, thank me later.

Tell us about the illustration which you drew for Record Store Day?
I designed this illustration in tribute to my Grandpa Bapa. He was an avid vinyl collector and is the reason why I am so heavily invested. Bapa introduced me to one of my favourite songs Herb Alpert - ‘The Lonely Bull’ and funnily enough he does remind me of a lonely bull. Rest in peace Bapa.

What was the first song you played on repeat?
'The Lonely Bull' - Herb Alpert

A song you wish you'd written?
'Spooky' - Dusty Springfield

A song from your favourite album?
'This must be the place' - from Speaking In Tongues by Talking Heads

What is the last piece of music you bought?
Nina Simone - 'Little Girl Blue' on vinyl

Best song to bring people together?
'Almost Went Too Far' - Joe Armon-Jones

Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Vote For Me' - The Specials

Best love song of all time?
'I Am In Love' - Jennifer Lara

Is there a song you like that people wouldn't expect?
'Rye Lane Shuffle' - Moses Boyd

What new musicians / bands are you listening to?
Hira really has my heart at the moment. Got to listen to 'Red Light Drive'.
