03Interview

Name, where are you from?
My name's Dani Ran, I'm kinda from all over the place but I currently live in South London.

What do you do?
I'm a model and writer.

Describe your style in three words:
Constant identity crisis.

Which music defines the teenage you?
'When In Rome!' by EATMEWHILEIMHOT!. I was a real angsty teen. Don't think I ever fully grew out of it, tbh.

A British icon or band who inspire your sound?
'Rock DJ' by Robbie Williams. I'm not British or a musician but if I was, probably Robbie Williams.

What has been your all-time favourite gig?
Seeing Kanye at Glastonbury in 2015 was genuinely one of the best nights of my life. I love my problematic king!!!

04Playlist Notes

What was the first song you played on repeat?
'Papercut' by Linkin Park. I was a kid in the early noughties in the height of illegal CD burning, my uncle made me a copy of 'Hybrid Theory' and I played it over and over and over again.

A song from your favourite album?
'Liar's Love' by Title Fight. Manifesting a Title Fight reunion asap.

A song you wish you’d written?
'That Battle Is Over' by Jenny Hval. Jenny Hval is the GOAT. The way she captures the tender colours of life with snarky existential side eye - ugh. I could only dream of having that range. I just think she's so great.

What is the last piece of music you bought?
'Exhaust / Surroundings' by PVA. I've been really bad at buying physical music in recent years but I bought my good pals PVA's debut EP 'Toner' last year. It rocks. I have it on display in my room like a proud dad.

Best song to bring people together?
'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' by Kylie Minogue. Who doesn't love a bit of Kylie?

Best love song of all time?
'True Love Will Find You In The End' by Daniel Johnston. Less of a love song than it is a song about love. It kind of says, look, things will be good and then they'll be less good, but have faith that everything will fall into place.

Is there a song you like that people wouldn’t expect?
'Warning Sign' by Coldplay. People are always taken back when they hear that I love Coldplay, but what they're forgetting is that I actually have the music taste of a middle-aged centrist 6 Music dad.

What new music/bands are you listening to?
Special Interest, the new Jane Weaver album, comfort, Piglet, Good Sad Happy Bad, Drug Store Romeos, Crack Cloud.
