03Interview

Name, where are you from?
I’m Josie Man and I’m from South East London.

Describe your style in three words?
Comfy, colourful, cute.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Justin Bieber. I was so obsessed with him and it was the first gig I went to with my friends.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Destiny’s Child and the Spice Girls, because they are JUST the best!!

Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Growing up I listened to lots of girly r&b like Rihanna’s 'We Ride' but then loads of classics like the BeeGee’s disco subculture, like 'How Deep Is Your Love'. When I was younger, the music I listened to made me feel happy and loved and I think it’s influenced my music in that way.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I think it’d be Hannah Montana because I’d love to talk to her about being able to live two different lives haha.

Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
My favourite venue is Somerset House. It’s such a beautiful place and it almost feels like you’re not in London. I went in the summer once to see Lianne La Havas and it was so AMAZING!! I love her songs 'Forget' and 'Lost and Found' so much.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
I would say Estelle because she opened so many doors for R&B artists in the UK, I was so obsessed with her when I was younger and her album 'Shine' still sounds so so so good today!!

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Five Colours In Her Hair' by McFly. My sisters and I would bounce around the living room listening to this! It reminds me of being young and that makes me feel happy!

A song that defines the teenage you?
'We Ride' by Rihanna. I used to listen to this with my friends when we first discovered mascara and parties!

One record you would keep forever?
'Half Time' by Amy Winehouse. My boyfriend showed me this song when we first met, we sang it together and he played the guitar!

A song lyric that has inspired you?
“Put your thoughts into the universe, and she gon' bring it right back”

From 'Miss Shiney' by Kaiit! These lyrics couldn’t be any truer!
I resonate with those words massively.

A song you wished you had written?
'Hookers' by Tierra Whack! It’s a TUNE!

Best song to turn up loud?
'Location' by Dave (ft Burna Boy)! I just LOVE this song! It gives me a family holiday feeling!

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'The Night' by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons! My older sister and I love this song. It reminds me of her!

The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'I Know There's Gonna Be Good Times' by Jamie xx, Young Thug & Popcaan! I love a good dance to this one.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
I’ve never done an all-nighter, but if I did I think it’d be 'Love The Things You Do' by Pip Millett. It’s a relaxing song and that’s how I’d wanna end my night!!

Any new bands you are into at the moment?
I love Easy Life! I love the energy I get from their songs! My fave one is 'Nightmares'.
