A Kane Photo

03Interview

Name, where are you from?
My name is Kane, born and raised in Hamburg but based in Berlin nowadays.

What do you do?
My focus is on photography.

Describe your style in three words?
Stuck between two.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Lil peep during Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, sneaked my way in and took one of my most well-known photos and had a great time listening.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
I would love to be on stage shooting with Raider Klan. Raider Klan was one of the pioneers of modern southern hip hop, while always acknowledging the sound of early Three 6 Mafia. I would also love to be working with TeamSESH, BONES, Great, drip-133, Drew The Architect and many more are all geniuses. The variety of always free music BONES released under different aliases is just insane and very inspiring for me and my work.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Skateboarding was and probably still is one of the subcultures with the most impact on my life. It’s most likely the reason why I am a photographer today and was also the foundation for my interest in streetwear and street culture. Music-wise Phonk has the biggest impact on me.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Bam Margera probably… this guy is nuts.

Where is your favourite independent venue?
My favourite independent venue in Berlin is the Eigengrau Bar in Kreuzberg. It’s a small cellar bar designed by Studio Karhard, one of my favourite interior design agencies, and ran by friends. On the weekends they make the best chicken n waffles in town.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Lord Sesshomaru, a good friend of mine and one of the most talented producers I know. Every time we catch up we have the deepest talks.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
Until this day, whatever track I dig I listen to on repeat for days.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Sixteen' by BONES.

One record you would keep forever?
'Fangs of the Demon 4' by Lord Sesshomaru. It’s the only physical music I own (not on Spotify, only on a physical tape deck and Soundcloud).

A song lyric that has inspired you?
'Star Shopping' by Lil Peep. All of the songs I mentioned do have lyrics that inspire me but this is a good one.

A song you wished you had written?
'Thought It Was A Drought' by Future. Dirty Sprite 2 Tape. Best first song I ever heard on an album.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Grinch' by JONNY5 and PISLIK88

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'No Ordinary Love' by Sade. I love all the songs by Sade. Very unexpected for most people I would say.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Hamburg Süd - Club Mix' by Langenhagen. Very hardcore but pretty fun, especially because of its intro and the fact that its a club banger about my hometown.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
Sade of course... or maybe 'Another Cup' by Dripping so Pretty.

Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Corbin and Bobby Raps make bangers at the moment.
