03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Lily Gloria, Melbourne, Australia.

What do you do?
Tattoos.

Describe your style in three words?
Chill, comfortable and relaxed.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to in Australia?
MF DOOM at the Espy in 2011.

Which Australian subcultures have influenced you?
Graffiti is a big one for me. When I was young my brother and I used to walk around our suburb looking at all the pieces by the train lines to get out of the house. He would tell me about all the artists and I’d try to figure out what the tags and pieces said. I was drawn to the attitude of the culture, the kind of anti-establishment stance it took. Graffiti has its own language and to understand it and follow it made me feel like a part of something when I was young and lost.

Best Australian musician?
Jordan Rakei.

Where is your favourite independent venue in Australia?
Bodriggy Brewery in Abbotsford. My friends built this spot and it’s got it all. Great beer, beautiful food with lots of vegan options and gigs too. Going to be spending lots of time there this summer.

What is Australia’s best-kept secret?
Northcote Plaza. Two Coles in one Plaza - epic.

Best place to hang out in Australia?
I live by the Yarra so my favourite place is walking down to the river with a blanket, beers, Barbeque Shapes and my partner Paul.
